1/100 MG Gouf Version 2.0 (MS-07B)

Finally we managed to get this one of the most famous MS in the UC era - none other than the magnificent super articulated mono eye Gouf of Ramba Ral...

Released in the second quarter of this year, this Gouf is indeed the long awaited update for the earlier version released in October 2000.

For 3,800 yen (about SGD 60.00) - 1,000 yen extra than the old model, it is basically for the greater articulation capabilities offered by this new frame (the same basic frame as those Zaku II Version 2.0 actually).

OK, let's see do a quick review for this Gouf now....

But first some battle scene for you to see...

Ouch!!! Super glue is needed.... the Gouf is so brutal and merciless....

Kids, do not try that with your RX-78 Gundam...

OK, this time for real... we shall see the quick review... please bear in mind that this is just a simple straight out of the box assembled kit... no painting or anything extra... the Flat Top Coat is out of stock in HLJ now that means I cannot get them in the coming weeks till after they do the restock process... hopefully they can restock it as soon as possible as I have plenty of MG and HG kits that I wanted to spray with the Top Coat - to protect the decals... more importantly now, because of the stock problem, I decided not to put all of the dry trasnfer decals yet... I did put just a few of them for this review purpose but not so much...

Gouf is a mass produce MS specialized in ground combat situation to replace the old Zaku II Ground Type (MS-06J) but due to the increased production cost over the Zaku II, the Gouf only see a limited time production runs before being replaced by the so-called more efficient Dom (MS-09) which can also be converted easily for space use known as Rick-Dom (MS-o9R).

The box...

The last time I assembled MG was in March 2009 - Zaku II Char Aznable Ver. 2.0 and when I look at all the runners... phew... I feel a little intimidated... but then again... not all of them will be used... lucky me...

This kit is quite easy to build... but because I'm quite slow, it still take me about 9 hours plus to finished it...

Let's look at the body...

Working with any Zeon kits is always fun for me... more fun than Gundam... Bandai made a lot of improvement to make life easier for modeller to work on this kit and I am so grateful for it...

As MG kit... pilot cockpit is a must... let's have a look at it...

Can you see the LED effect inside the cockpit?

Version 2.0 is all about better articulations and action pose, therefore I will highlight more about the articulation in this review... as for action pose, I am sure you can see that from other site as well...

Articulation on the foot/shoes...

The knee articulation have also been improved a lot by Bandai... well it's the Zaku II Ver. 2.0 frame, remember?

Arms and elbow also doing very well...

The most significant improvement (according to Bandai) is the front skirt part of the Gouf. Now both the front and side skirt armor parts are linked together so that the side skirt armor will slide back when the front skirt armor is moved upwards so as to not restrict the Gouf's movements...

I personally like it but then again I was wondering why can't Bandai just use the Zaku II Ver. 2.0 skirt design? Is it due to different approach of design concept or is it because just to make the Gouf a little different from the Zaku... I don't know...

But despite this improvement on the front skirt part... I would demand for a little bit more improvement on the side skirt... at the current state... there are times when you over stretch the leg movement (or posing) the side skirt can pop out and fall down... maybe a little bit more sideways movement freedom on the side skirt would make this already great kit a perfect one...

OK, let's see some of the action pose to demonstrate the great articulation of this Gouf...

A little Yoga... it's nice to see that the Gouf can be more flexible now...

And those individual articulated fingers... just like the Zaku... very nice... you won't get this on any of the MG kits of Gundam...

Universal "friendship" sign....

Gouf is rock...

This is the shield, a very important armament for this Gouf because the heat saber handle is mounted there...

See that's the Heat Saber...

Gouf with the shield...

Grabbing the heat saber from the shield...

Ready to rock now...

Another important weapon of this Gouf is the Heat Rod (mounted on the right arm) which could be used as a superheated slicing weapon or as a grappling weapon with a powerful electric shock effect... Amuro Ray doesn't like this very much...

My only disappointment with this kit overall is the Heat Rod is a little too short... should make it a little longer.... Nonetheless I must also highlight here that is is now much easier to assembled the Heat Rod if compared to the old version... I love this kind of improvement... my praise to Bandai...

And of course last but not least, the machine gun mounted on the left hand fingers, drum fed, 100 rounds per drum...

My wife said this hand is very nice and suitable to give a powerful slap to those Gundams...

A simple standing pose with the heat sword and the shield...

Bandai also provided these 2 statues of Ramba Ral and his honey bunny - Crowley Hamon at a 1/100 scale... amazing to see that some people managed to paint these small statue very well... I envy them...

Overall this is indeed a very nice improvement to the old MG Gouf. Now you can do many more action pose that you can think off and I am so happy to have him in my collection.

You can still use the Zaku II machine gun and bazooka if you have them like I do... I'm just lazy to post them with those weapons as this post already have too many photos now and this is in fact the 2nd Gouf we've seen here this month and the 3rd if you include the HGUC Gouf last month.

I will still need to get a Gelgoog though... but I'm quite lazy to build the GunPla kit anymore as I also have other project to be handled soon therefore maybe I will just get those MSIA Extended Gouf... nicely packed and ready to play with out of the box...
