1/144 HGUC RX-78-2 Gundam (2015)

So after a very long time, I finally touch GunPlaMoKit again and there is no better way to do it than with RX-78-2 Gundam and this particular kit was first released by Bandai way back in 2015 with further improvement over the previous version - the most prominent being the articulation on the shoulder.

This the box:

You will get all these and after that off you go, build the kit and once you done, have fun with it...

I bought it this from the local hobby shop and the price is about USD 13.70 ( EUR11.15 / GBP 9.72 / JPY 1,464).

This kit is pretty easy to build even for an old farmer like me and it should be a no brainer for those experience and hardcore GunPla builders and hobbyist alike. It took me roughly about just over 1 hour but then again it doesn't matter, take your time, GunPlaMoKit hobby is not about being the fastest, it's all about enjoying and having fun with it and hopefully it makes you happy.

This is the completed kit build by me, it's just a plain straight build, I'm not an expert or a professional or a hardcore hobbyist, for me this is good enough and I just put a little bit of top coat at the end of it and that's about it. I'm done and I want to play with my Gundam and I'm happy!!!

The Gundam standing...

As I mentioned earlier, Bandai have been working hard to improve the articulation of this model and they did a great job, well done, I love it. The articulation now is quite astonishing for an HG 1/144 model. The play value of this Gundam is now way much better than ever!!!

The Gundam comes with the standard beam rifle, shield, bazooka and 2 beam sabers, no core fighter though but I don't ever care about that stuff.

Let's play around with the weapons....

I personally feel that the beam saber supplied is a little too long for 1/144 scale... not a deal breaker but I can't help but notice it's pretty long...

You can mount the bazooka on his ass like this, which is pretty cool....

You can also mount that shield at his back like this:

RX-78-2 Gundam is a simple and yet quite a capable mobile suit during it's era and we just love it....

Side by side with the more expensive and complex RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam.

Overall, this is an exciting and fun RX-78-2 Gundam that comes with a decently economical price and quite easy to build and once you done building it, you can play and have fun with it. In terms of play value, I personally prefer the HG over the RG. It doesn't matter if you are new with GunPlaMoKit or a seasonal hobbyist or even an expert or maybe some professional, this kit is worth it and you wont regret grabbing one of this. It's simply fun!!!

I personally have some issues with the RG where the hands or rather those movable fingers of the RG are quite filmsy and it's quite difficult to attached the weapons onto the hands properly. Since they keep on falling off easily and after several attempts I get frustrated and just throw it away. To solve the hands problem, I use the hands of GFFN Aile Strike Gundam as replacement hands for the RG RX-78-2 Gundam and now all is good and way much better.

  1. Somehow you can’t go wrong with the super classic RX-78 and this kit with improved articulation really pays the bill; the RG, on the other hand, looks fantastic but I have heard it’s a nightmare to assemble due to the amount of tiny pieces, it needs a lot more patience... It’s curious that in the last picture the RX-78 twins look with certain disdain at the Aile Strike (or it’s envy, LOL ???)... =D

  2. So many reproduction of RX-78-2 over the years that I kind of lost track lolz. Nice built there and goes to say that HG has come a long way to perfect itself especially in articulation. I can really tell you are having great fun during photoshoot and that JCVD kick is awesomely cool!
