Hot Wheels - BMW Z4 M Coupe

This is BMW Z4 M Coupe die cast car model produced by Hot Wheels.

The BMW Z4 is a rear-wheel drive sports car by the German car maker BMW. It follows a line of past BMW roadsters such as the BMW Z1, BMW 507, BMW Z8, and the BMW Z3. The Z4 replaces the Z3. First generation production started in 2002 at BMW USA's Greer, South Carolina plant, with production of both roadster and coupe forms.

BMW introduced an M version of the E85 Z4 in late 2006. Called the M Roadster, it's powered by the same 3.2L, 8,000rpm, S54 inline-6 engine as the E46 series M3, delivering 330hp through a new 6-speed manual transmission. Engine management is via the Siemens MS S70 with higher processing power (64 million calculations per second) than the MS S54 (25 million CPS) in the M3. Other performance parts borrowed from the M3 include the CSL's compound (aluminum hubs, iron floating rotors) brakes and most of the M3's suspension components. Other changes include a hydraulic steering setup which provides better feel than the electric system in standard Z4 models. Weighing 3197 lb (1450 kg), the M Roadster has been tested by major U.S. car magazines to accelerate from Zero-60 mph in 4.7 seconds, which is slightly quicker than the Porsche Boxster S and Porsche Cayman S. . Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (249 km/h).

Nonetheless, let's have a look at this die cast car model....

The packaging:

Out of packaging;

Although the casting is pretty good but the detailing is quite minimalist.

This seems to be a special racing version for racing circuit use and thus the roll cage bar is included for the interior... I wanted to changed that for sure....

I decided to do some simple customization to make this Z4 M looks more interesting and somewhat real LOL... So we need to "open up" the car....

First thing first, I removed that roll cage bar for good....

After that, I painted the whole interior with black color;

And then a little bit of external detailing work - very important though - we put a little bit of decals on the head lamps / front lights;

And we did the same on the tail lamp / rear /brake lights;

And that's about it.... Now at least for me personally, this Z4 M looks much better than before and I'm happier with it now....

Overall, I love this miniature die cast car model of BMW Z4 M Coupe even more after all that simple customization work. As it is, I think it looks decent but awfully minimalist and I don't really fancy that.

  1. i think i have this model as well =)... as you mentioned, the casting is good but could be better... maybe is the thick paint which hides many details... the actual car has a great design, modern and aggressive... nice touch ups !!! the front and rear lights decals actually give it a lot more of realism and presentation... i have not heard about those decals, at least not in my country... =/

    1. The decals is actually a "custom made" using those hobby decal papers and laser jet printer.
