Price Hike

Was doing our usual grocery shopping at the local supermarket recently, the usual place we visit every weekend and I was shocked to found out something annoying...

Look at these item... they are both actually the same item.... the one on your left we bought in the 1st week of January 2011 while the other one on your right we just bought last Saturday (29 January 2011)....

This one from the 1st week of January 2011 is almost finish.... still have a few pieces inside maybe...

And the price within that 1st week of January 2011 was SGD 9.45 (about USD 7.39)

And this is the latest one.... fresh from the supermarket...

And the price is SGD 10.90 (about USD 8.52) - what the fuck!!!!

Just because Chinese New Year is near, the food price all goes up.... probably not many noticed about it... many will just doing their shopping as usual buying lots of stuff especially after they see that promotion of 5% discount for customers of certain bank credit card holders....

In a way, I feel that this is some sort of discrimination or unfair business practice but then again I'm not sure if we have consumer/customer protection law/system/agency in here...

So while all we can do is complaining about the price hike, it seems that not many bother about it - just keep on buying, keep on spending.... and all the already rich businessman just smiling happily...

I guess this is why they say it's better to do your shopping in the middle of the month rather than on month end but for me, I use to do it on every weekend and thus sometimes I can spot the price differences accordingly.

In some countries the government will do something to control the food price hike especially during before the festivities period - good or bad, it's up for debate but for consumer, surely I think its good.

What do you think about this sudden price hike?
