Banpresto SCM Ex: RX-78-2 Gundam

This is the Gundam Special Creative Model EX: RX-78-2 Gundam from Banpresto.

At the same price of Model A (Char Zaku II) - 1,450 yen (about SGD 23.00) before shipment charges, this is indeed a very cheap posable action figures. Too bad though that the stock status in Hobby Link Japan is now Discontinued... damnn, that is way too fast. Now I regret for getting just 1... I should get 3 or 4... hope we can still get it from other online or local toys shop.

So this it... the box...

Out of the box, you will get all these...

The Gundam...

The shield, 3 optional hands, beam rifle, 2 beam sabers and a bazooka...

Let's look at the body...

Just like the Zaku II, you can mount the Bazooka at the back...

Simple panel lines and details on the legs and other part of the body... nothing great but it's quite nice...

One thing that is unique about this model is the way Banpresto designed the foot/shoes...

Look at this...

Direct comparison of the foot between this SCM Ex RX-78-2 Gundam and the HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Shewsbury Custom

Can you spot the differences? I personally love the Banpresto design so much... something different and unique (since I have plenty of RX-78-2 Gundam in my collections)

From Left to Right - Size comparison with the SCM Ex Zaku II and HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam and lastly this SCM Ex RX-78-2 Gundam itself...

If compared to the HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam this SCM Ex RX-78-2 Gundam is a little small but I think it's not really a big sin to assume it as 1/144 scale... well almost there in fact, but not really...

The joint on the elbow...

The joint system on the knee... quite sturdy and it still allow wide range of articulation...

Some tests on the articulation and pivot points of this figure...

I don't think the HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam can do this...

Now let's have a look at all the weapons and armaments...

One of my complains is the beam saber... due to the soft materials used by Banpresto on this part therefore it is normal to see those "not so straight beam saber" - look at the pink (or is it purple?) parts...

Nice details on the bazooka...

And also the beam rifle...

And again... even the shield is quite unique.. it is indeed a slightly different approach in design...

The photo below... from Left to Right, you can see the shield of this SCM Ex RX-78-2 Gundam, followed by the shield of HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam and lastly the shield of RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. G30th

And I really love it that Banresto give extra attention for the 2 units of 60mm vulcan gun on the head. It is never easy to paint that part at this small scale - though Banpresto factory maybe have the correct tools and knowledge to do it easily...

Standing pose with all the weapons and armaments...

By the way, there is 1 think that I would like to mention here... the waist articulation is quite nice for this model... hope this few photos can explain it to you...

Ok, now it's action time...

Beam rifle...

380mm Hyper Bazooka...

And last but not least... the beam sabers...

A memorable battle scene from the classic anime...

Some outdoor photos...

The sky is much brighter today... the photo looks much better than the cloudy background...

Overall for it's cheap price of 1,450 yen (about SGD 23.00) I have no reason not to love this item. The only complain I have is the pink beam saber part but other than that I think this is a magnificent product on its own accord.

In a way I tend to believe that this Special Creative Model EX series from Banpresto inherited and improve those tools and knowledge of Bandai MSIA products - though I maybe completely wrong about it - this is just my personal assumption.

If you love the 78 but feel lazy to assemble the HG 1/144 Plamo kits and at the same time you wanted a nicely painted Gundam at a cheap price this what we can recommend to you.

The only regret I have now is that this product was quickly "Discontinued" in HLJ and I hope I can still find it in other online or local toy shop. This could have been a very nice Christmas presents to my fellow friends...

I guess I should now consider the other alternative offering from Banpresto at the same price rate, which is the Hummable Series - if it's still available that is.

I also personally would hope that in the future Banpresto could release other MS from other series like any of the Strike Gundam's variations from the Gundam Seed anime or even any other models from the UC timeline.
