Fast Lane - Volkswagen New Beetle

These are 3 current models available from Volkswagen, the popular Volkswagen New Beetle. Nonetheless, these are just miniature die cast model of the New Beetle at 1/58 scale.

"Volkswagen New Beetle" is a compact car, introduced by Volkswagen in 1998, drawing heavy inspiration from the exterior design of the original Beetle. Unlike the original Beetle, the New Beetle has its engine in the front driving the front wheels, with luggage storage in the rear. Many special editions have been released, such as the Malibu Barbie New Beetle. In May 2010, Volkswagen announced that production of the current body of the New Beetle will cease in 2011. A redesigned model has replaced it, called simply the Volkswagen Beetle.

As for this die cast model, we have all 3 familiar models, the normal New Beetle, the convertible New Beetle and the limited and most powerful of them all, the Beetle RSi.

First, let's have a look at the normal New Beetle in yellow color... the packaging;

Out of the packaging;

Features wise, not much to highlight, basically the size is slightly larger than those from Hot Wheels. It has fully sealed but nicely detailed interior and you can see the Volkswagen logo on the car. External detailing is just average, no big deal, painting finishing is quite good but not great either;

And this now the New Beetle Convertible with red color;

Out of the packaging;

Features wise, basically the same on the normal New Beetle so almost everything that I mentioned above are applicable here with the exception that at least on this one, you can see the interior detailing;

The interior detailing is quite good and in fact better than some of those from Hot Wheels considering that the retail price of this brand (Fast Lane) is slightly cheaper than Hot Wheels.

Last but not least, the formidable Beetle RSi with blue color;

I like the glossy blue finishing on this one but the aerodynamic spoiler thingy is made of plastic and it look so "plasticky". Furthermore, I dislike that red colored "anti-roll bar" inside the car and thus I will remove it;

To remove it, I have to open up the car and thus we can observe the interior detailing further later on;

And this is how it looks like after I removed that "anti roll bar"

As you can see, the interior detailing is quite good;

Now, without that "anti roll bar" the car looks more simple and more "street-legal" or "street friendly" version LOL....

Overall, we are quite happy with the 3 New Beetle. Painting finishing is good, interior detailing is better than some other brand, for it's price I think its magnificent. It's nice to have all these 3 models at once so that you can display them next to each other to further appreciate the evolution of the New Beetle.

  1. the New Bettle design, as some of the classic reinterpretations, has been controversial... for me although the result is pretty aesthetic, it failed in the size, which is significantly bigger than the original, i mean, this NB has almost the same size of a Volkswagen Golf which was always bigger than the Bettle...

    in this trio, the RSi is the more appealing in my opinion, also the best cast and wheel design, the interior detail as you mentioned is surprisingly good and for a reasonable price is a nice deal... =)
