The Nasi Lemak or stupidly "fat rice" if you use direct English translation from Malay words is a very popular food in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

According to Wikipedia:

Nasi lemak is a dish sold in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Riau Islands and Southern Thailand.

It is not to be confused with Nasi Dagang sold on the east coast of Malaysia or Terengganu and Kelantan although both dishes can usually be found sold side by side for breakfast.

However, because of the Nasi Lemak's versatility in being able to be served in a variety of manners, it is now served and eaten any time of the day. There is a similar dish in Indonesia called nasi uduk.

With roots in Malay culture, its name is a Malay word that literally means 'rice in cream'. The name is derived from the cooking process whereby rice is soaked in coconut cream and then the mixture steamed.

Sometimes knotted screwpine (pandan) leaves are thrown into the rice while steaming to give it more fragrance. Spices such as ginger and occasionally herbs like lemon grass may be added for additional fragrance.

Basically, Nasi Lemak is a package which includes the rice with cucumber slices, small dried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, hard boiled egg, and hot spicy sauce (sambal) at its core and this is basically the traditional and original stuff.

However, it is also normal that some people like to also have chicken or beef (and many other stuff like cuttlefish, cockle, stir fried water convolvulus, pickled vegetables, beef curry or rendang or beef lungs) as an additional stuff - I personally prefer the original traditional arrangement but then again people tastes and preferences may varied.

It's nice to eat Nasi Lemak after having great sex, with a glass of black coffee as the companion.... ahh... nothing better than that... after eating you might want to continue for another round of sex maybe...

Here in Brunei, I personally believe that this is the best Nasi Lemak I've ever taste - simple and yet delicate - finger licking good. Some of the customers I met, have been a regular buyer for over 20 years now and yet they are still being loyal to this "Nasi Lemak Lim" - again no relation with Eric Lim... but I'm pretty sure that they're also Hokkien.

Have you ever tried this Nasi Lemak? Do you like the simple classic style or do you prefer to add chicken and/or beef meet as extras?
