Tomica - Chevrolet Corvette Z06

This is a 1/64 scale die-cast car model of Chevrolet Corvetter Z06 by Tomica of Takara Tomy, one of the biggest toy brand/producer from Japan.

Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car by the Chevrolet division of General Motors (GM) that has been produced in seven generations (as at 2013). The first model, a convertible, was designed by Harley Earl and introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Myron Scott is credited for naming the car after the type of small, maneuverable warship called a corvette. Originally built in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette is currently manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky and is the official sports car of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The Chevrolet Corvette (C6) is a sports car introduced for the 2005 model year. The current generation Corvette is the first with exposed headlamps since the 1962 model. Variants include the ZR1, the most powerful production Corvette to date, and the C6.R, an American Le Mans Series GT1 championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans GTE-Pro winner.

The Z06 arrived as a 2006 model in the third quarter of 2005. It is also the lightest of all Corvette models. It had a new 7.0 L (427 cu in) version of the Small-Block engine codenamed LS7, which produced 505 hp (376 kW).

In addition to the larger engine, the Corvette Z06 has a dry sump oiling system, and connecting rods made out of titanium alloy. The frame of the Z06 is constructed from aluminum, saving 136 pounds over the standard steel frame. Other weight saving measures such as balsa wood/carbon fiber composite floors and a magnesium alloy engine cradle were used.

For 2011 the Z06 carbon edition was introduced, which carries over multiple parts from the ZR1 including carbon ceramic brakes, active suspension, and other carbon fiber aerodynamic pieces. Most of these options can be ordered through the Z07 package on the Z06 except for the carbon edition specific hood. Only 500 Z06 Carbon Editions will be made. The Z06 officially weighed 3,180 lb (1,440 kg), giving it a weight to power ratio of 6.3 pounds per horsepower (3.8 kg/kW).

The detailing of this die-cast scale model however is quite minimalist and yet effective. On the front and also on the rear we can see the Chevrolet logo accordingly;

The model comes with the original American style configuration, left hand steering wheel. The interior color is all in black but I think it's OK that way as I prefer it to be in black anyway;

The front doors are openable so you can peep a little on the interior;

Overall, this is a very decent representation of Chevrolet Corvette Z06 at 1/64 by the Japanese toy producer Takara Tomy. The casting and painting job is quite good while the openable doors is a fun feature to have on model at this scale though the wheels are the typical dull looking from Tomica. I still like this very much, I think it's quite pretty in simplicity.

And again, using this silver pen, I colored all the wheels;

To be like this;

It's not perfect but I like it much better now than before.

  1. this car is something i would not call boring... actually is an american super sport car, probably the first one !!!... this Tomica is quite simple but with a good QC, although i think that a clear rear window for the trunk would be better and more realistic... the design of the C7 is more appealing for me than the C6, but being a high performance vehicle, is always welcome !!! =)

  2. I haven't really seen a Chevrolet so sporty like this. The rear brake lights looks like those of Skyline.
