Rastar RC 1/14 Ferrari 458 Italia

My affection for Ferrari Italia 458 continues and this time we present to you this 1/14 scale remote control car model of the 458 Italia made mostly out of plastic by a brand of toy maker from China called Rastar and apparently they said that this is an official licensed product by Ferrari. I don't know if it's true or not but they happen to have all those "licensed sticker" with "serial number" stuff so I think this should be for real.

The price for this item is a mere SGD 36.00 (about USD 28.00 / EUR 21.00 / 2,764 Yen) and considering the large scale, I personally believe that this is a great value for money. I bought this from one of the local toys/hobby shop who specialized mostly in those remote control cars segment. The shop name is "Kawan Ria Toys" - basically in broken English I could translate it as "Happy Friend Toys" - something like that. The local Toys R' Us apparently selling the same model for a hefty price of SGD 60.00 (about USD 47.00 / EUR 35.00 / 4,607 Yen) - no further comments from me but that's their price.

Anyway, let's have a look at this pretty 458 Italia;

The Ferrari logo and that prancing horse is nicely done there;

Now let's move on to the other side;

This being a remote control toy car, we get the benefits of those lights - front and rear;

The wheels design is quite good as well, I'm pretty happy with it.

On the other hand, I personally feel it would be nicer (at least to my personal taste) if the brake clips comes with red while those brake disc in silver.

Again another Ferrari logo and Pininfarina name on the side of the car were nicely done by Rastar;

Another goo points on the exterior detailing and labeling;

Those exhaust pipes looks so cool;

The visible top part of the engine is nicely detailed, I never get bored looking at them;

And now the interior detailing, no openable door but at 1/14 scale the window is quite big enough for my camera lens to peep inside;

As you can see from several pictures above, the interior detailing may not be perfect but I think it is one of the best I've seen and considering the price of this item, I think its quite tremendous, even the head rest for the seats have that prancing horse nicely done there.

And the remote control... we should not forget that this is in fact a remote control toy car, not a scale model;

The remote control is quite simple, there is no outer space science there, pretty much straight forward with the typical button to move forward and reverse as well as to steer left and right while at the back there is a tiny ON/OFF slider switch and that's about it.

The car side by side with the remote control;

Overall, this is a brilliant Ferrari 458 Italia in 1/14 scale as a remote control toy car with plenty of great detailing considering the cheap price. This model is not perfect by any means but on the scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the best and 1 is the worst, I give this model a wonderful 9 points. Despite the big size this car is quite light which then again will remind you that this is just a nicely produced plastic model car. The interior detailing is respectable as long as you don't be a retard and start to compare this car with the 1/12 or 1/18 scale die cast car model produced by Auto Arts or maybe Kyosho. The retail price for those highly detailed die cast car models from Auto Arts and/or Kyosho is 6 times higher than this so to compare them with such is totally not fair. However, own it's own accord, this car looks pretty and Rastar have done a great job to create a representation of the pretty 458 Italia as a 1/14 scale remote control toy car.

About the performance as a remote control toy car, I'm not really sure what to say or how to evaluate them but I put in the batteries and the lights works, it move rather smoothly and quite fast but this is not a high performance remote control car so it is not as fast as those that cost several hundreds of dollars.

I never really intend to play around with this car and after this review, I just put it on top of my coffee table as some sort of decoration, looking at it from my leather sofa admiring it every single day while dreaming of my self driving the real Ferrari 458 Italia.

  1. actually, beign a RC car, the level of detail is outstanding !!!... i think this is another factor to consider this product an officially licensed... most of the RC models by reputed brands don’t have this level of detail (they don’t even have interiors !!!), just a motor with a polycarbonate cover, that’s it... it’s a beautiful reproduction with a very good QC and the price is an absolute bargain, what else you could ask for ???

  2. Look nice and polished. Good details to the interior too! The price is really reasonable for a good quality RC car. Some of the pics might even lead some to think it's a real car. Beautiful...
