S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider OOO - TaToBa Combo

It seems to take forever but finally after a long wait, I decided to grabbed this S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider OOO - TaToBa Combo, well eventually that is also after I finally watched the complete TV series (I bought the DVD box set) 2 months ago.

I collected lot's of gimmick action figures from Kamen Rider OOO series simply because I love the looks of all the forms of Kamen Rider OOO. From the first or the default TaToBa to the final form, all seems to be likeable for me.

As for the TV series, well, frankly speaking, although I collected quite a number of Kamen Rider action figures from various type and series, I haven't watched many Heisei Kamen Rider TV series. The first that I watched is the Kamen Rider Ryuki, I like the Kamen Rider with dragon theme but the story on the TV series is kind of sucks, I dislike it. Other than that, this Kamen Rider OOO is the only 2nd Heisei Kamen Rider TV series that I watched thru the end and I like the Kamen Rider as well as the story.

One thing I noted though, in the past, I mean during the Showa era way back in the early 80's and all the way to Kamen Rider Black and Black RX, the main character is quite manly and kind of matured.

However in the modern Heisei era and especially in the past 3 or 4 years, they tend to choose some "pretty" boy teenager who at times have idiotic behavior and kind of dumb ass to be the main protagonist of the series. Probably this is to attract the younger viewer but I hope Toei understand the fact that they are many older or matured viewer/fans of Kamen Rider out there.

They are time where I hope we can still get a decently matured actor to be the next hero of Kamen Rider but probably that is just my wishful thinking.....

Nonetheless, I do like Kamen Rider OOO so much especially the default TaToBa combo form. I like the primary black color of the suit with green a long the way and of course a little bit of red and yellow wont harm. I tend to believe that black and green is the default color of Kamen Rider just like that white, blue and red typical color for Gundam if you know what I mean.

For now, let's have a look at this action figure from "S.H. Figuarts" produced by the big brother of Japanese toys and hobby industry - Bandai;

The box;

Out of the box, you will get all these stuff - the figure, extra hands, a pair of that tiger claw thingy, a sword and that round thing is some gadget they called "O Scanner";

Let's have a look at the figure;

Since I happened to have the gimmick action figure of "OCC01 TaToBa", I decided to also do a little bit of comparison not for the sake of pointing who is better but rather for the sake of just comparing their features and capability. On the following pictures the "S.H. Figuarts" is on your left and the "OCC" is on your right;

And obviously from what you can see on the above pictures that when it comes to painting finishing they are more or less the same, but detailing wise, the S.H. Figuarts is slightly better and then again, size wise, the OCC seems to be slightly bigger and taller, not much, just a little bit.

When it comes to articulation, they both can hold their ground respectively.... the usual kneeling pose is not a problem for both of them;

And a few more articulation test;

OK, this one is particularly something the S.H. Figuarts can't handle;

A little bit of close up look on the detailing of the S.H. Figuarts;

And finally now, action pose time;

Let's play around with the weapon;

And now... it's "Wolverine time" LOL.....

My only complain on this figure is this "Tora claws" or "Tiger claws" thingy. I hate the fact that Bandai prefer the "part-swapping" options which means you need do need to do "part-swapping" when you want to pose the TaToBa with any part that you want, it can be tedious at times;

I personally would love it if they just do it like what they did on the "OCC gimmick figure" in which I don't have to do any "part-swapping" - see the picture below;

A little bit of extra pictures wont harm;

Overall, this is a brilliant action figure targeted at matured collectors. The finishing and the detailing is very good and articulation is not a problem either. If you love TaToBa Combo, surely you would love to have this one.

  1. i can see you’re obsessed with Kamen Rider and i guess your complaints about the dubious masculinity of the last actors performing this character must be fair, but the series is definitely not my kind and what i have watched reminds me so much Power Rangers (yeah, the carnage of the japanese series LOL)...

    the figure itself is a great item, the detail, paint job and articulation is excellent, just what you can expect from Bandai’s top lines but when i see it, my mind shout: "go, go Power Rangers !!!"... XD
