Neca - Kill Bill "The Bride"

This is a figure of Uma Thurman depicting the main character "The Bride/Black Mamba" from the movie "Kill Bill" a massively popular film by the creative director, Quentin Tarantino.

This figure is produced by "Neca" under their "Reel Toys" series.

Kill Bill is a two-part 2003–2004 action/thriller film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Kill Bill was originally scheduled for a single theatrical release, but with a running time of over four hours, it was separated into two volumes: Kill Bill: Volume 1, released in late 2003, and Kill Bill: Volume 2, released in early 2004. The two films are frequently referred to collectively as simply "Kill Bill."

Kill Bill: Volume 1 is a 2003 American action/thriller film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It is the first of two films that were theatrically released several months apart, the second one titled Kill Bill Volume 2.

They follow a character initially identified as "The Bride", a former member of an assassination team who seeks revenge on her ex-colleagues who massacred members of her wedding party and tried to kill her. The movie is often noted for its stylish direction and its homages to film genres such as Hong Kong martial arts films, Japanese chanbara films, Italian spaghetti westerns, girls with guns, and rape and revenge; in results, Kill Bill has gained a cult-movie status with action movie aficionados worldwide.

Beatrix Kiddo, a.k.a. The Bride (portrayed by Uma Thurman), is the protagonist of the film. She abandons her life as a hired assassin for the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (DiVAS) upon realizing she is pregnant with Bill's child, denying him the right of fatherhood to preserve her unborn's future. This action provokes the attacks on her and her loved ones and its ensuing revenge, which is the entire basis of the film. Her code name while working for DiVAS was Black Mamba.

Now, let's focus on the figure... first, the packaging;

They also included some advertisement for other products available from other movies as well;

And if you happen to have the grunts of the "Crazy 88" soldiers, you can do the "blood spraying action" as seen on the movie;

OK, now let's have a look at the items, this is all of them out of the packaging;

The figure;

Beautiful action base, 1 extra hand to hold the wood and the sheath of "Hattori Hanzo" sword.

Now, let's have a look at the figure;

The sword by "Hattori Hanzo" and it's sheath

The action base is mimicking the "House of the Blue Leaves" actual floor as seen on the movie;

OK, articulation wise, this figure and in fact most figures from Neca are almost "statue-like" and thus they do not promise lots of articulation abilities for you to do any dynamic pose as you please. However, they are focusing more on the sculpt and the detailing parts. So if you expect to play with this figure like what you did on those action figures like Figma, then I guess you wont like this figure. However, if you are a big fan of the "Kill Bill" movie and just want this figure as a display item, then you should like this figure. Having said that, there are some minimal articulation points on certain parts of the limbs and with it you can do a little bit of pose variation but then again not really much OK.

And thus, these are all the "action pose" that I could think off with this figure;

Overall, this is a nice figure from Neca. It has less play value but instead it's more like a display items that offer more on the sentimental value for the buyers and collectors. The targeted potential buyer are of coz the hard core fans of the movie (like almost everybody in Shewsbury Land) and those who like to have the figure of Uma Thurman at decent price. You wont play a lot with this figure but then again, if you are a fan of the movie, you will feel proud to have it.... display it alongside the original Blu-Ray disc and it's just perfect!!!

  1. I have watched the movies some time back and it's quite enjoyable. it's a good replica and thanx to your review I know it's more of an action figure rather than statue. The sword by "Hattori Hanzo" and it's sheath are well made with details.
